Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker EHC650 2-Speed Food Chopper with 3-Cup BowlCustomer Review: Use This Chopper All The Time Summary: 5 Stars
I love this little tool. I try to find ways to sneak veggies into many things I cook, and this little baby helps me do it. For example, when I make spaghetti sauce or chili, I make the sauce (or chili) as usual, but add one zucchini or yellow squash and one or two carrots to the sauce. I put the veggies into the food chopper, push the button, and within seconds, the veggies are processed into a crumbly texture. Easy to sneak the good stuff into many recipes. I even found a recipe for zucchini brownies, and the Black & Decker unit processes the squash just right.
I also have put mushrooms, onions, cooked chicken breasts, cooked apples, raw apples, and other solids and liquids into this chopper, all with good results. I usually don't use this for onions, however, as the consistency of the finished product is a little inconsistent. If I process until most of the onions are just right, some larger pieces still remain. If I continue until the large pieces are "done," then the rest of the onions are mushy. Really, onions are the only thing so far that I don't like to use in this gadget.
Very happy with this product. I've had it for about eight months now, use it all the time, and so far have had no problems whatsoever with it. I bought one for my daughter this year for Christmas.
Customer Review: Quick & Easy! Summary: 5 Stars
Ever wish you could chop up an onion in 2 seconds? It's possible with this little beauty. Instant bread crumbs? No sweat! How about shaved ice? It's a snap!
The Black & Decker EHC650 Ergo 3-Cup Food Chopper is unlike anything I have used before. It's SAFE and EASY to use. The best part is the clean-up: There really isn't any. It has only three parts! There's the cup, the powerful blade that slips into the cup, and the ergonomic top. The top is actually the motor - and it fits comfortably in your hand.
It's so easy to use:T
Step 1: Take the one-pound chopper off the shelf.
Step 2: Take off the cover and fill the container.
Step 3: Put the cover on and push one of the two buttons (one's fast and one's slow).
Two settings - fast-pulse and slow-pulse - give you flexibility in how coarse you want your food to be chopped. It even purees!
The see-through container lets you see the food as it is being chopped.
Don't need all those chopped onions right now? Use what you need then pop the handy lid on the container and store it in your fridge.
I highly recommend this product based on its easy of use and ease of clean-up.
This is the best electric food chopper I ever used.
Customer Review: No more onion tears Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to simplify chopping onions. I can't stand the fumes, the tears, the drama of it all. This little beauty is amazing. I try not to get "uni-taskers" as Alton Brown calls them, and I was a little concerned this might be considered one, but I got the Food Chopper just before Thanksgiving last year and went to town.
I used it to get the entire meal prepped and I saved so much time and it was effortless. All of the onions, celery, carrots, mushrooms, you name it that I needed to saute for the stuffing was chopped in no time. Garlic is super easy. The only thing you need to be concious of is not overfilling the bowl and to cut your veggies, etc into similar sizes so they get chopped uniformly, but that goes for any processor.
I use this all the time now for prepping bases for my soups, roasts, salsas. It is wonderful for chopping garlic in bulk, I still use a knife for one or two cloves, but if I need to mince a bunch, out comes the Food chopper and it is done in seconds.
It really is a great little tool for the kitchen when you have a project that you don't want to lug out the giant food processor for, or its just too big to do with your knife and you want to save some time.
Customer Review: a must in my kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE this chopper-- I purchased 1/07 and I use it every day for chopping all kinds of items!! I would be lost w/o it!!
Three cups makes a nice amount of material and can be used a few times for 6-9 cups...and unlike the bigger processors --very EASY clean-up!!
I use this marvelous machine to chop veggies for soups and salads and anything I use veggies in which is practically everything... I make oatmeal finer in this chopper for cake mixes and for adding to ingredients to make them more nutritional.
I frequently make non meat burgers and use this chopper to "puree" up the beans I use and to chop up different beans together and the veggies I also use in these burgers. This chopper chops much finer than the last chopper I had and there are 2 speeds on this chopper...
so if you want a coarser chop, then use the lower setting and your pulse on/off will give you total control. For the mere $15 I paid for it last year on sale here -- it has served me well a multitude of times over it's worth!!
I give it 5 well deserved stars... even if it went on me tomorrow it has served our house well and I would replace with the same item without consideration...
Customer Review: I'm buying more of these for presents. Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best chopper. I have a small food processor and a large food processor. I have purchased those handheld types that you pound up and down. I've went through several of those, because they are handy. Well this one is just as handy. It cleans up so easily. I don't have to twist parts to lock in place, just place the top over the non-skid bottom and BOOM! Your chopping. It doesn't mush your food either, it chops!
Update Sept 1, 2009
I am buying another one and I am so glad they are still sold. I bought one of these for everyone on my Christmas list in 2006, because I was so impressed by it. It is easy to clean, because of the top motor. Almost three years later and with constant use, I have never had a problem. The recipients of my Christmas gift still thank me, because they use it all the time and it works great for chopping. I love the fact that it chops green pepper and onions, without mushing them.I bought this to replace a Cuisenart mini chopper. I am buying one for the son of an earlier Christmas present recipient, because he talks about this device and how his mom loves it on taco night for chopping.
