Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker Divided Food Steamer

Customer Review: Perfect rice. Though I don't use it for anything else.
Summary: 5 Stars

Well basically I was boiling my rice, but it always came out tasting like the pan. So I looked for an affordable steamer. Your rice will come out perfect, even if you go over 5-10 minutes. I use it strictly for brown rice. If you throw some real unrefined coconut oil, you can brown rice taste better than white rice. I don't use it to steam anything else, but that's because I eat my vegetables raw.

The only downside is knowing cooking times (they don't give you any) for the rare grains like Quinoa or 7 grains Kashi. You'll have to experiment with that.

Customer Review: Excellent Investment
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had two of these (I'm now ordering my third) in 14 years. I use this steamer no less than four times per week; often I use it seven. I really give it a beating, and wash the lid and baskets over and over, in the sink and in the dishwasher. I don't take care of the damned thing at all and it just keeps on performing. In between the first and second of these steamers, I decided to get fancy and bought a Cuisinart steamer at twice the price: It fell apart in just over a year. Junk! You can't go wrong with this Black & Decker.

Customer Review: Worked for over a decade!
Summary: 5 Stars

We would certainly repurchase this steamer--the parts held up great over nearly 15 years! I don't know about the fellow who was shocked by his--that never happened to us at all. The heating element finally started to just operate sluggishly, so we don't own ours anymore, but this is a winner of a kitchen gadget, and I was very happy with it for a very long time--broccoli, brussels sprouts, asparagus...all cooked perfectly with the timed steamer--never overcooked once we figured out just how long to leave each item in. DELISH!

Customer Review: Great for making baby food!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this steamer (combined with the Kidco electronic food mill) as an alternative to the Beaba Babycook Baby Food Maker. Not only has it been great for steaming fruits and vegetables for baby food, we frequently use it to make rice too. It's great! The price was right, and it has a relatively small footprint, which is nice in our small kitchen. No complaints.

Customer Review: Terrific
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an ideal steamer, i.e.,it is big enough to do large or small tasks. There's no healthier way to cook veggies than steaming & being vegan, I cook a lot of 'em, so the divider comes in very handy. Brown rice takes longer than it says; but cooks it perfectly. It does small red potatoes just right, divine carrots! My husband cooked dinner using it, & everything was delicious. I use only deionized water in the steamer bottom, so the burner won't corrode.
