Customer Review: Handy for overnighters where good coffee isn't available
Summary: 5 Stars

I like this. Small, lightweight, inexpensive, and packs in my carry-on easily. I probably could set it up in an airport while waiting between flights if I wanted to. The base doesn't heat, so you can use any sort of cup/container. I'm fussy about coffee and don't like to go into the world before I have my cup and this solves the problem compactly while away from home. I like a strong coffee, so I use 3 hefty tablespoons of coffee, medium to fine grind, for one cup. I chose this model over those with a travel mug because I prefer my own mugs.

I can't speak to how long it will last if it were used frequently, but for occasional use, it seems sturdy enough. I'm wondering if there are replacement filters available for these? If not, I suspect a paper filter would help increase it's functional life, but also it's cost over time.

4.5 stars at normal price, 5 stars on sale price.

I also wonder - is this stuff recyclable, or is it instant garbage when it's done working?

Customer Review: No wonder Starbucks just closed 600 stores.
Summary: 5 Stars

In the time it'd take you to say, "I'll have a grande mocha cappuccino Al Pacino latte schmotta," you could make your own perfect cup of what the rest of us call "coffee." And instead of having to take out a mortgage to pay for your fancy-shmancy brew, you can buy this entire coffeemaker for what you'd spend on a few cups of Starbucks. Trust me -- you've known me long enough, right? -- the coffee that comes out of this little plastic barista tastes so good (assuming you throw decent enough coffee in), the real shame is that with only one cup, you can't share it with anyone. And whoever said the coffee tastes like plastic must've been chewing on their Lee Press-on nails 'cause I definitely didn't experience that. Plus this Cup-at-a-Time unit comes in a substantial-looking box, too, so nobody'll think you're cheaping out on them if you give it as a gift. Unless they happen to go on Amazon and check the price, so just in case, let me close by saying this coffeemaker is worth every penny of the $99.99 you pay for it.

Customer Review: What we needed
Summary: 5 Stars

This arrived a day before it was scheduled so we were pleased to begin with. We had another B&D single cup coffee maker for years, slightly larger version, and gave it to my father in law because he had a below the knee amputation and can't get up the stairs to the kitchen. He needed something small that would fit in the space in which he now lives (until a prosthesis lets him negotiate stairs better). This smaller version doesn't take up much space, has it's own filter so we don't have to go buy them, is easy to clean up and makes good single cup coffee quickly. The only down side, same as with the one we had preciously, is that if you put too much coffee in the filter it will boil out of the filter into the boiler and sometimes onto the counter. Makes a mess! I still give it 5 stars because it's inexpensive, reliable, and does everything we intended. When I need stronger coffee I use another cheap, small machine that makes espresso.

Customer Review: Exactly what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

There have been many times that I wanted a cup of coffee but I didn't want to make a whole pot just for myself. So I found this B&D Cup-At-A-Time Coffeemaker, but when I saw the price I thought it must not be very good. Wrong! After looking at what other people on amazon had said about this coffeemaker I decided to purchase 2 of them; one for my mom and one for me. We both already have the whole bean coffee and grinder so we could use it now for either our 12-pot coffeemakers or our One-cup coffermakers. And we didn't have to get the special pods that other single-cup coffeemakers typically use. We did purchase the Size #1 filters; they cost about $1.80 for a box of 40. This coffeemaker is so easy to use and we are both really glad we got them. The automatic shutoff is perfect especially for my mom since she is older and tends to forget to turn off things.

Customer Review: Great for lots of things
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the previous model years ago (8 years?) and it just now gave up the ghost. It is great for things other than coffee - I took the filters out and just ran water through it for tea, instant hot cocoa, instant oatmeal, etc. Anything you'd use hot water for. Oh, and with the filter in you can make tea from loose tea leaves if you want.

My old model made a little more than a cup of hot water in about three minutes.

The water does not get dangerously hot, either, which I think is a good safety feature. I have made a cup of tea every morning for the last 5 years at least, and it worked great. I am looking forward to ordering the new model. (The old one is still available but not directly from Amazon, so no free shipping.)
