Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker DCM500B SmartBrew 5-Cup Coffeemaker, BlackCustomer Review: Perfect for my needs Summary: 5 Stars
Prefer my coffee brewed fresh. This is the perfect size for one or two mugs. Having no auto timer is a definite plus since I'm not into 'bells and whistles'.
Customer Review: Smart Brew 5-cup coffee maker Summary: 4 Stars
Easy to use, easy to clean. Makes a great cup of coffee in a very reasonable amount of time. Also the coffee is hot, not just one step above warm, which is really nice if you add milk or cream because it doesn't cool off too much. Also nice is the feature on the glass carafe that show's not only how many cups are in the carafe but also where to fill to get that many cups. They are not the same. I definetly would purchase again for myself or as a gift.
Customer Review: coffee maker 5 cup - review Summary: 4 Stars
My elderly father uses this coffee pot and likes it as it is good for just one person. The lid is better quality than most other 4 cup coffee makers and the container can hold up to 6 cups- which is like 2 mugs. The on/off button stuck in the beginning but is working fine now. We had previously bought a 4 cup but it was too small. My father thinks this one is great as he has Parkinson's and is limited on his strength.

This product is very nice considering the fact that I'm in Iraq. It's a slow dripper but it gets the job done.
Customer Review: OK coffeemaker for the money. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the Black & Decker Smartbrew 5-Cup Coffeemaker (DCM500B) through Amazon in April 2006. The unit operated well until the hinge attaching the cover to the coffeemaker base failed in September 2010. The unit did make coffee, though not incredibly hot. Biggest problems involved the water chamber (grew mold if not cleaned regularly) and the heating base (accumulated burnt coffee stains if not cleaned regularly). Except for the metal coffee pot and metal heating plate, the unit is made of plastic. The biggest advantage is price, coupled with the fact that you can't break the coffee pot. The biggest disadvantage is the regular cleaning needed. You also have to be careful that you don't overfill the water reservoir, or the coffee will overflow onto the countertop. The unit is fairly well-built (my unit lasted a little over four years). Given the unit's low price (I paid $18.99), I can't really complain about the service life of four years. In this case the old saying is true: "You get what you pay for". Despite the low price, I wouldn't buy this coffeemaker again.
