I thought I had ordered the 5 cup but ended up with the 12, and I'm pleased anyway. This 12 cup makes coffee much faster than my old 5 cup brewer which just gave up two weeks ago. The coffee is what surprised me the most--I hate bitter coffee, and this brewer always gives up a rich but NOT bitter cup of coffee. I think my old maker must have been too hot, because it always turned the best coffee bitter. There are no spill issues like with my old brewer, either. When our last coffeemaker died, we were reluctant to replace it. My husband is the only coffee drinker (we're elderly and live in a retirement community). We soon realised we needed something for when family or friends visited. I read many reviews on Amazon and purchased this model which was a basic coffeemaker with good reviews. In a previous review of this coffee maker, I complained that it didn't hold up for more than 6 months - if that. We recently discovered that the problem wasn't with the coffee maker, it was a problem in the wall socket. I really did love this coffee maker and surely will purchase another of this model when our current coffee maker dies. Bought this for my mother when her old bunn coffee maker wouldn't quit leaking. Had seen it on America's test kitchen review. This is a fine coffee maker, we've had it for awhile now, it brews fairly fast and is easy for her to set up since the top opens wide enough to get the water in without spilling. Consumer reports shows that this coffeemaker is rated #1 in drip systems, and they're right on. The biggest problem I've had with other makers is spilled coffee, both when I took out the carafe and when I poured the coffee. This B&D model never spills. Ever! Also, taking the carafe out and putting it back in the maker is so effortless. It's so easy and there is no "clanking" sound. I highly recommend this B&D coffeemaker.
