Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker DCM18S Brew 'n Go Personal Coffeemaker with Travel MugCustomer Review: I don't know what's wrong with the other customer reviewers! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently read all of the customer reviews on this product and found myself laughing. Doesn't anyone know how to brew a cup of coffee? This product is excellent and I haven't had one single problem with my Brew 'n Go.I've heard that it overflows; that they can't pour the water into the unit; that the coffee tastes like rubber; that the maker turns on magically--or won't turn on at all; that coffee grounds get everywhere, etc. I think the problem must be with the users themselves. The first time I used this, I read the instructions beforehand, plugged it in, put my 2 tablespoons of coffee into the filter-- which is great I might add--filled my cup up with water, poured it in, added sugar and creamer to my cup, put the lid on, put it under the brewer, hit the switch, then had a steaming cup of wonderful coffee in seconds. I got to throw out my electronic mug warmer, too, since the coffee stays hotter longer. This product is great for people on the go, for people who only drink a cup of coffee a day, and for people who don't like to spend an eternity cleaning up!
Customer Review: Does its job very well Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this personal coffeemaker for several years, and it works great with many handy features. No coffeemakers for less than six cups make decent coffee, so my rating is in comparison with other 4-cup or less models. The little filter basket is a good size for the little single serving filter packs, and the included filter is good if you prefer to measure ground coffee. If fresh coffee is not available at your office, this model is very convenient and compact to use at the office. The mug: I have a huge collection of useless travel mugs, but this mug is a great design - both for the car and for carrying around. It really keeps coffee hot a long time, and it is easy to drink from it with the lid on without dribbling coffee all over. The black rim does not have a weird taste like other mugs. Besides using it with the coffee maker, it gets a lot of use as a coffee mug, since the lid makes it easy to carry coffee without spilling at the office and the coffee stays hot. In short, if you prefer a personal coffee maker, this model is a very good choice.
Customer Review: Great Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I have really enjoyed this product and I've have had none of the problems described by other users. I brew both regular cups and large cups of coffee and use travel mugs or our everyday cups for this purpose. If I have a travel mug that I want to use that doesn't fit properly, I simply use a 16 oz. styrofoam cup and pour it into the mug. I like to use a regular paper filter and fold it a couple of times because I think it does a better job of filtering. It is cheap and I can do it in about five seconds (and I've got C.T. and arthritis...you oughta see me typing this for a slapstick laugh for the day) and I've never had an overflow problem. I measure 8 or 16 oz. of water and pour it from a measuring cup and use either one or two rounded tbs. of coffee. My wife and I usually make our coffee with a Merlitta Mill and Brew (also five star and the best coffee I've ever had) but sometimes she wants a weird brew and I just use my Brew 'n Go. I've also used it to make a quick cup of tea and, though I know purist tea drinkers will shudder, found that it works well.
Customer Review: Wonderful Coffee Maker! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great coffee maker. I've had this for a month now. I am the only coffee drinker in my family, so this single cup coffee maker is perfect. It also works well for a cup of hot water. I used to drink instant, but now with this I can drink real coffee. It takes only 2 minutes to brew. The travel mug is perfect for when you need to take it to go. The built in filter is great. I do not need to worry about finding K-size filters, which the store around here never carries. Clean up is fairly easy. Just knock the coffee grounds into the trash and rinse the filter with hot water. Sometimes, I make a filter out of half a paper towel.
I've had no problem with overflow. I have found that it takes about 10oz of water to make one 8oz cup of coffee. And it leaves room for cream and sugar, for those that like it. I looked at other single cup coffee makers, but they were way too expensive. I'm glad I found this at amazon for under $20. And it does not take up very much room, which is perfect since I have limited counter top space.
Customer Review: Sooo convenient Summary: 5 Stars
I love my Brew 'n Go coffeemaker. Just add measured amount of grounded coffee and water; turn the power on and water heat up very quickly and you get hot (not scalding ) coffee within couple of minutes.
Permanent coffee filter works good. Now I don't have to use paper filters like I use to which is good for environment.
How much simpler can it get?
Reliability so far has been good. I was using Melitta drip coffeemaker previously. It is more basic, more time consuming and wasteful in that you use disposable paper filter to hold your grounded coffee. You heat the water with tea kettle which will take longer time to heat up. Then you pour the hot water over grounded coffee slowly and then wait for it to drip completely. It may make good coffee but definitely labor intensive and kills time.
Just the fact that I no longer have to buy paper filters and saving 2/3 of the time compared to my old Melitta drip system I would say this is money well spent.
