Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker DCM18S Brew 'n Go Personal Coffeemaker with Travel MugCustomer Review: Great alternative to high priced makers Summary: 5 Stars
Old coffeemaker was dying, but didn't want to spend a fortune on another single cup maker. Not to mention the cost of the coffee for them. Since I'm pretty fussy about a fresh cup each time, gave this one a shot-not expensive and can use regular coffee. So far, pretty happy with it. It is a drip maker, not pressure, so takes a couple of minutes, but makes a good cup of coffee. Since you can use any coffee in it, you can adjust your strength, and can adjust the amount of water, so a definite plus. I did buy filters for it, even though it says you don't need to. Tried without for a day, but had some fine grit in my coffee. Much better. Easy to use, doesn't take up a ton of counter space, and easy to clean. Travel mug that comes with it seems nice, but haven't used it. I've used my large coffee mugs, actually several different sizes and shapes. The base where you sit the cup, is nice and big, so everything fits so far. Haven't tried anything real tall, but fat, round, angled, etc.. works great. Still pretty new, so don't know how long it will last with my use. But, depending on how it holds up, would buy again.
Customer Review: Great value for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I just wanted to say, I read the other user reviews and so I was concerned about the possibility of overflows, or cheap plastic that doesn't fit together, but I decided that for 30 dollars (total), I might as well give it a shot.
Well, not only am I pleasently surprised by how easy this product is to use, I also do not see how other users could be getting errors unless they are totally using the coffee maker incorrectly.
It's not at all difficult, just make sure that the filter is placed properly (there is a notch that fits the cup - it's not rocket science), don't overfll the water container, and don't put too much coffee grinds in. The manufacturer recommends 2.5 tbsps, which is what I used. I could see how with that amount, the grounds sort of ride up the side of the filter container. If you put a lot more than that (say 4 tbps) you would probably end up overflowing the grounds when the water goes through.
Other than that, it is a cheap plastic coffee maker. I wouldn't expect it to last forever! But everything is in working order, and I'm happy with what I got.
Customer Review: I love it - and am skeptical about the negative comments Summary: 5 Stars
So, before I bought this, I must've read every comment below. Then, I bought it!
Positive Points from me and others:
- Makes one great cup in about 3 minutes.
- Shuts itself off once cup is brewed.
- Takes up very little space (could travel with this!)
- Comes with own reusable filter. (So, no trash, like with the K-cups.)
- Only clean-up is the filter - just rinse it out.
Negatives mentioned by others:
- Included travel cup is only "ok" - I've been using a regular ceramic mug when I'm just at home.
- Drips when you move filter basket - just leave your cup under there for a little more previous coffee!
- Overflowed often, making big mess - I humbly submit that this could be user error. The coffee filter is very small (holds just enough for one cup) and the water tub is very small (again, only meant to hold enough to fill one coffee cup). If you over-fill either one, I can see how you'd end up with water, coffee and/or grounds all over the counter. But, with the right portions, it works beautifully.
Hope this helps!
Customer Review: Great and Affordable Product for Single cups Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product because my sister had one and I was so impressed with being able to easily brew just one cup. It also will help with my electric bill since it cuts off as soon as the coffee is brewed. I don't need the "keep warm" feature. Oh, yea...the coffee is great!! The permanent filter was a disappointment since the finer particles were left at the bottom of my cup. I use the Melita cone #1 filter which eliminated that problem. However, if the filter or its holder are not placed just right, you can get coffee grounds in your cup, or the hot water misses the filter hole and may splash everywhere but in your cup. This was an easy fix. I just have to pay attention to what I am doing when preparing my cup of coffee. NOTE: I did have difficulty finding the #1 size filter. Most places were sold out. I went to Amazon and was able to buy a case of 12 boxes (40ea) for about 3 cents each filter. Even with shipping that was a cheaper price that at the grocery store. I have no doubt that I will use each and every one!! I also have peace of mind that I won't run out anytime soon!!!
Customer Review: Great Machine Summary: 5 Stars
This coffee maker is great. After 3 uses I got the coffee perfectly the way I like it (I place the milk in it before brewing the coffee) I washed the mug and everything before using it, as recommended in the instructions, and I don't get the plastic taste that some people complain about, I also leave it uncover after I use it so it will air out. I never had a spill problem, I guess the people that have those problems have not read the instructions. I am very happy w/ it and got 2 more for my friends. The only negative thing about it is that it does make some noise (for about 1/2 minute) while it brews. Other than that I can't complain, got it for [$$$] Friday sale and already save on having to pay every day [$$$]for coffee or wasting time at home while making it there and bringing it to work and, which was already cold by the time I got there. Oh yes, I use it at work. I am happy I got it. (PS; If you use milk, boil it in the microwave before you put it in the mug, it makes the coffee taste a lot better and it stays hot longer. And that's what we call real "CAFE CON LECHE")
