Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Black & Decker CO1200B Grand Openings II Extra-Tall Electric Can Opener, Black

Customer Review: Do not buy this can opener.
Summary: 2 Stars

Within the first week of operation, this can opener acted up.It wouldn't start running, and then it wouldn't stop running unless you unplugged it.It was very disappointing and frustrating.Besides, with the cost of shipping, you're paying almost as much for it as you would be for a better one.Don't settle.

Customer Review: Piece of junk
Summary: 2 Stars

I gave it a fair shot, but this piece of junk just doesn't make it. It takes 2 or 3 tries to get it to grip the can. Then half way through it lets go. Also the top portion, that separates for cleaning, does so way too easily. I'm giving up and replacing it.

Customer Review: This can opener had no "Grand Openings"
Summary: 1 Stars

I unpacked this handsome looking black can opener and it sat on the counter for several days before I had a can that needed opening. I tried and tried and couldn't get the can to open. Then two grown mechanically inclined men in my household also tried. There seemed no position of the can that was acceptable to the device. Finally, after about half an hour I was about to scream when it caught on and the can - with great effort and noise - the device opened the can.

IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK! I will toss now toss it in the garbage and eat the $24.00 loss. By the time I put it back in the box, pack it in a new outer package, wait for the "return" tags from the seller, and a replacement (which will probably perform exactly like the original order), a lot of my time will have been wasted. I needed a can opener that doesn't offer a struggle to open a can. A lesson learned....can openers are important so don't buy a cheap Black and Decker product when the old one bites the dust. Go to the store and get a quality product.

Customer Review: The worst can opener I have ever owned
Summary: 1 Stars

In addition to the reasons to avoid this product mentioned in other reviews, including the difficulty in getting the opened can extracted from the opener, bits of paper shredded off by the can opener, etc., I would like to add: The design of this model causes the can being opened to be tilted up at enough of an angle to cause whatever liquid is in the can to pour out onto the opener and countertop, etc. This is especially unpleasant when opening tuna and is almost impossible to avoid unless another person holds the opener tilted forward on its front edge while the can is being opened. It is also very difficult to get the can started opening. If only replacement blades were available for my sturdy, reliable Rival can opener! Unfortunately, I did not realize how bad this Black and Decker was until it was too late to get my money back.

Customer Review: Worst can opener I've ever owned.
Summary: 1 Stars

This with a doubt one of the worst can openers I've ever
owned!! I bought it because it is attractive and will
accept tall cans. It is attractive, but not very
functional. It is so very difficult to get the can
positioned just right, so it will open, that it takes
5 or 6 tries just to get it to work. The "lid catcher"
blocks your view of the mechanism so it's almost
impossible to position the can properly. In addition
when removing the can, the cutting arm mechanism slides
off the opener most of the time.

Don't but this poorly designed product!!!
