Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bialetti 6800 Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker

Customer Review: Great Coffee
Summary: 5 Stars

The Moka Express makes great tasting coffee quickly and easily. I was very pleased with how easy it is to load, use, and clean. I have no complaints and the money I have saved by making my own coffee in the past month has easily covered the cost of the Moka Express.

I have only one regret, I wish I had purchased a larger version. The 6-cup version does not produce 6 cups of coffee. I have the 6-cup version which is usually enough for me, but if you have friends over I doubt it will be enough. Although it only takes ~12 minutes to make the coffee, it also takes time for the machine to cool down before you can refill it and make more. However, I assume larger versions will take longer to produce coffee as you must always make a full batch (you can't use just 25% water & 25% ground coffee, you must always use 100% of both). If you are purchasing this for just one person, the 6-cup should be plenty.

In conclusion, this machine is great, but make sure you purchase the right-sized one for your needs.

Customer Review: What a great find!
Summary: 5 Stars

Im going to be very straight to the point and straight forward with this review. I had been looking for an espresso make for a while and had been searching for the pump or steam driven espresso makers till my friend introduced me to this marvel that has been around Italian homes for years. This stove top espresso maker just uses a regular stove to make some great espresso in a few minutes. Just fill the bottom half with water upto the marked line, fill ground espresso (i use starshmucks coffe, any will do) and screw the bottom half to the top and just leave it on the stove till the water boils. It forces the boiled water through the espresso and into the top half and voila! you have some great espresso!
Some people might be turned off by the fact there is little to no "crema" on the espresso. Atleast, i havent been able to achieve that yet. But all in all, this is a great espresso maker for the price you pay for it. Durable construction, easy operation, small investment and easy to clean.

Customer Review: Credit where it is due.... BRAVO BIALETTI!
Summary: 5 Stars

I discovered this jewel on AMAZON.COM when they flashed it up via database association when I was researching espresso makers. [thanks Ma Amazon, I just LOVE the fact that you are always reading my mind ;^]

Anyway, we have started using the 6 cup Bialetti Moka Express [Italian cups that is, which is a 1 cup American, ha-ha!] with the wonderful Lavazza Espresso grind coffee, [yes Virginia, Amazon has it] and what a wonderful thing that combo is. [But seriously now, the "yield", using an espresso grind, is about 8-9 oz.]

Can't say whether the knockoffs work as well as the original; as for myself I have always had a policy of rewarding excellence in my purchases so paying the little premium for the real thing, by the people who originated it, is a no-brainer.

BTW, we bought a friend the combo pak with the Bialetti milk frother and she says that the frother is just as exemplary as the coffeepot! Amazon has the combo.

Customer Review: Buy this, save your money!

I was looking at Amazon reviews for espresso machines costing hundreds of dollars to replace my Krups when I read a review on this little Moka pot. The reviewer said this is what they use in Italian homes and with a aerolatte frother one could have everything they needed to make great cappuccinos & lattes for a fraction of the cost. This turns out to be amazingly true. I love this little pot. It takes a bit of practice to get the amount of water (I like less than the full 6 cups to get a stronger espresso), coffee amount (filled) and amount of tapping down (just gently), and heat setting (medium low so it has time to extract) exactly right, but it's fast, easy to clean up, and I am thrilled with the quality. I will say that I have an issue with aluminum (some research saying it's not good to cook with it) and I've found they make one in stainless steel that I might get instead--but I would never consider an expensive espresso machine again.

Customer Review: Better then my big expensive espresso maker
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the 6 cup and had been reading how the smaller ones will make a small cup of coffee. Well if you are making regular coffee in it and use a 6 to 7 oz. cup to drink from like me, then this will make just over one great cup. But if you are using it for espresso, like you should, then you will fill a set of demitasse cups. All in all, this little stove top is a whole lot better then this big expensive machine I bought a few years ago. If I would have seen this first, I could have saved so much money! A lot easier to clean with just water and no bitter taste from the gasket, as I have seen before with other stove tops. Side note, when you do get this clean it first! When it comes to you, you will see a jelly like grease this is only a shipping lubricate and should be washed completely off with only hot water. If you don't then you will taste very bad, greasy espresso.
