Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Back to Basics 400A 7-Quart Aluminum Home Steam CannerCustomer Review: You can can if you want to. Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased one of these about 12 years ago. It was one of the best investments I've made. Several friend now want them so I purchased 6 more for them. It saves so much time and is far less dangerous. I was burned badly one year with the hot water bath when the wire rack slipped and my hand went plunging into the boiling water. There is no way that could ever happen with these.
Customer Review: This Steamer is Jammin' Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the steam canner for jams and jellies. It is GREAT!!
I would not use it for low acid foods like meat or vegetables.
Fast and easy, I was done making 20 8-ounce jars of strawberry jam in 1.5 hours.
Gets up to steam quick and batch changing is fast and easy without a single cracked jar.
I still use the pressure canner for my low-acid preserving.
Customer Review: The ONLY way to can! Summary: 5 Stars
I searched the web for this when my old one sprung a leak. Couldn't find one locally, so bought a regular deep well hot water bath last year and HATED it! This year I once again look forward to canning! Much less mess, always seals, rarely breaks a jar, much quicker due to less water to heat -- the only way to go!
Customer Review: Love my stem canner! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this steam canner! It was recommended to me by a friend, and she is so right. It's so light and easy to handle, uses very little water and heats up very quickly. I'm a newbie at this and so far every jar I've processed has sealed perfectly. This canner gives me confidence that I'm doing things right.
Customer Review: Better than the first one Summary: 5 Stars
This is the second steam canner that we have purchased. The first one lasted 20+ years, and we would probably still be using it if we hadn't let it boil dry. We like the grate on which the bottles sit on the new one, and the top fits down further to provide a better seal. Hope we get 20+ years out of this one.
