Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Back To Basics Apple And Potato PeelerCustomer Review: 5 Stars
My only regret is that I didn't buy this years ago. It makes coring, peeling, and/or slicing even a bushel of apples or potatoes quick and effortless - and I get a LOT more apple or potato than I did when doing this by hand. I make delicious apple and potato dishes much more frequently since acquiring this - and it appears indestructible. (Once in a while, I have to adjust the alignment, but that takes only a second, and is clearly shown in the directions.) This isn't something I would save in a fire, but it is something I would immediately replace. Truly indispensable!
Customer Review: Fantastic! Just buy it; you'll love it! Summary: 5 Stars
All in my family agree we wish we had bought this many years ago. It is very easy to use, works flawlessly, and is easy to clean. We knew it cored and peeled the apples but we did not know it slices them, too. Peeling and slicing can be set on or off. It does everything very well. We haven't had to order any spare parts, e.g., peeler and slicer, but they are inexpensive.
Just buy one; you'll love it. You can prepare a batch of apples in about one-fourth the time it would take to do them manually. A great, well-designed, well-made product.
Customer Review: Speedy sliced apple delivery! Summary: 5 Stars
There's nothing wrong with going back to the basics if it means more efficiency in the kitchen. I have owned one of these peelers for years and find the suction cup system far superior to the old crank attachment. This works great on your stone countertop without fear of damage.
Use firm apples and you'll peel and slice an apple in far less than a minute. It makes cooking with apples a dream. Try slicing 3 apples and saute in butter, add brown sugar and cinnamon when cooked and serve instead of syrup on pancakes, waffles, etc.
Customer Review: my favorite kitchen gadget gift Summary: 5 Stars
I love mine so much, it has become my favorite thing to give my friends who also like to cook, expecially the ones who bake. Though sturdy (cast iron, I guess), it is fairly small and lightweight. It is very easy to suction to the counter by moving the lever. I've been told that the clamp on version is much more of a pain to use. It peels, cores and slices an apple in 7 seconds. Though I haven't tried it yet, I think you can move the peeler blade out of the way if you just want to core and slice. Fun to use! I have not tried potatoes.
Customer Review: Apples in an Instant! Summary: 5 Stars
I so love the Back to Basics A505 apple peeler and corer. I bought a used one on eBay and when the blades finally gave out, I opted for a new one. You can also purchase replacement blades for it, but I chose to go new. I love this. It peels and cores in a flash, is easy to clean and not bulky for storage. My familly eats more than an "apple a day" since we've been using this peeler. My toddler can't get enough of the spirally apples. If you bake apple pies or make applesauce, this would be an awesome tool. 5 Stars for sure.
