Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Back To Basics Apple And Potato PeelerCustomer Review: This is a great find! Summary: 5 Stars
This Apple and Potato Peeler is fun to work with. I wanted to make Apple Dumplings for the holidays and my friend lent me hers. After using it, I ordered one for myself the same day. It is my new fun gadget for the kitchen. It peels, cores, and spiral cuts the apples in a moment which prepared the apples perfectly for the dumplings or apple pie. It's great for scalloped potatoes also. It adheres to the counter by suction and holds tight. After using, just rinse. It's constructed well and will last for a long time. My friend has had hers for 15 years or so. I have already used it many times. You will love it.
Customer Review: Back to Basics Apple and Potato Peeler, vacuum base Summary: 5 Stars
This kitchen gadget is a great timesaver for pie making, and in addition, since my wife no longer has any teeth, and I have full plates, it enables us to eat apples without cooking them.
In my family, we always called gadgets of this sort "fruit lathes" because that's what they are. There are several brands, each differing in some detail or another, but I picked this one because of 1) the design of the peeling blade, and 2) the availability of replacement parts.
Suffice it to say that the thing works up to expectations ... within an hour of its arrival, we had a pie baking in the oven.
Customer Review: I eat lots of apples now! Summary: 5 Stars
I love my apple peeler for so many reasons. No one has one of these things its so cool when everyone comes over fascinated by this thing. Not only that, but I hate the skin more than anything in the world and I can peel it off really easy and make a cool twist out of the inside of the apple. The best part would be how it takes out the core, it's twisted and ready to eat, really it's a way cool invention. I wish I would have thought of this, its so fun and I've gotta say it's great to have. This is a every entertaining gift and I'm sure anyone would love it you're just not to sure of what to get them.
Customer Review: Such a time-saver Summary: 5 Stars
We used this to slice up and peel the apples we used to make apple butter as gifts to our friends. Such a relief, as last year I peeled all the 10 pounds of apples by hand! The suction cup is really great for those of us who don't want to scratch our countertops with the clamp, and it works quite well. I had to re-adjust it only a couple of times, which is pretty good when you consider that I was really cranking the apples out! I suctioned it right to the side of our sink and put the bowl right under it and caught the apples that way. We have also used it for pears and sweet potatoes.
Customer Review: Can't beat it with a paring knife! Summary: 5 Stars
My new wife was skeptical of my praises for my antique looking peeler the first time she helped me peel and slice apples, to dehydrate, from our orchard. I had five or six apples. peeled. cored and sliced, in the time she peeled one. She was sold. (Fast forward 1 1/2 years) It is never put away. It stays on the kitchen counter. We use it for peeling and/or slicing potatoes at least every week. I'm buying a second one so my father-in-law will stop borrowing mine. It's living proof of a basic idea that can't be improved upon. (Like the wheel) Beware of Chinese imitations! They are junk!
