Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Back To Basics Apple And Potato PeelerCustomer Review: The Best Tool Ever for Amuuties. Summary: 5 Stars
Hi my name is Troy. I am 38 years old. I lost my right arm when I was 20 on a conveyer screw when I was working. I never had real potatos it was always in a box. I married and my wife loves to cook but she finds it hard to peel potatos herself because she has Ruemitoid Athritis. This product helped my wife and I peel potatos and cook dinner. I want to help her and when I saw this product I found a way to do it. I tried it out and my wife even got out the camera because she was so happy that she finally does not have to suffer anymore by peeling the potatos. I just wanted to let you know that your product is the best I have ever seen and if you have anymore that can help my wife out I want to know. I have to rate this product the bomb.
Customer Review: Well-made and fun to use! Summary: 5 Stars
My wife has wanted one of these for a while now after seeing one at a Pampered Chef party. I had no idea what she was asking for but decided to look into getting her one. I looked at the Pampered Chef one and was not impressed with the idea of clamping it to the counter or table or spending even more money to buy a funny little base for it. So, I decided to look at other options. This one looked good and the price was MUCH better than the Pampered Chef variety. I ordered it and it arrived very quickly. My wife was very excited and she LOVES the way the base suctions to the table - it works very well and the kids love having apples this way. For what we were looking for - this product is a perfect fit!
Customer Review: Works like a Charm Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great apple peeler and corer. It's well made and does the job perfectly. I was very happy with this purchase. The corer function actually spiral cuts the apple/potato as it cores it. In the case of a potato, you end up with the center of the potato. Even with this it actually works really well for making scallop potato's. The only problem we have noticed is that it doesn't work very well on soft apples. It tends to just break them apart. Also, the spiral slicer tends to butcher your apples a bit. We made a whole bunch of dried apples and honestly, we didn't care that the slices were not perfectly clean. It's so handy and quick you won't notice. This is a wonderful peeler. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Liked it so much, I bought another Summary: 5 Stars
I've used one of these for years. Finally, the drive screw wore to where it skipped and I had to buy a replacement. The new one is identical to the old one except that it has been improved in appearance with a coat of enamel. I saw some unfavorable reviews on the subject that the suction cup wouldn't hold it down. Being vacuum, it requires a pristine surface such as glass or formica. On a wooden table, I'd say: "Forget it" and buy a model that clamps.
The thickness of the slices is exactly suitable for me; I slice an apple to eat it, not to make apple sauce. This makes a thick enough apple-shaped spiral that it holds together, and one subsequent knife slice turns it into a neatly sliced apple.
Customer Review: Works perfectly - if the fruit is suitable. Summary: 5 Stars
This works really well on all except the largest-sized apples. It really does an excellent job on regular-shaped fruit - especially those varieties that are very crisp (e.g. granny smith). The suction attachment base works perfectly on my glass cook-top.
Large and/or misshapen fruit can be a problem, forcing the apple off-centre and not fully removing the core. Bruises and blemishes can "gum-up" the cutter, sometimes tearing the apple apart.
If the fruit is suitable, this simple but effective little device GREATLY reduces the time taken to prepare fruit for a pie or two. Slightly over-ripe fruit may make a great pie BUT forget using this device when preparing it.
