5 Stars and No Argument! This strips peels off an apple in 3 seconds flat. Best little mechanical device there is, bar none. Be sure to dry it after washing or the steel rod will rust, and give it some WD-40 occasionally. This one is the highest rated of the bunch. Mine has a C-clamp instead of the vacuum base (I bought it at Ace Hardware) and I built a small table with a piece of 1" x 6" lumber. Cut three 12" lengths, use two for legs, one for the top. Screw and glue together, attach the peeler and you're in the apple cutting business. I also glued some mesh foam shelf liner to the bottom of the legs so it doesn't slip on the counter top. I've just made 12 lbs. of chunky cinnamon applesauce and canned it for the winter. Piece of cake...uh...apple pie! Do not hesitate to buy one!

If you like apple crisp, pie, etc., this gadget is a MUST. I've been peeling, coring, and slicing apples by hand for years, but this takes all the hard work out of my favorite desserts. In seconds, the apple is all clean and ready to bake. Great for pears, too. I have a dehydrator and I've made dried pears and apples for Christmas gifts for people this year using this handy device. I even got my boyfriend to help me because it's so fun to use...and he never cooks!
All of the blades are replaceable, so there is nothing to every wear out. I'm assuming this is the cast iron version of the device. I can't vouch for the aluminum version. The cast iron model is like something my grandmother would have had...rare to find this kind of quality in a gadget these days. No plastic!

I never thought to review this handy kitchen tool, but I was writing my brother-in-law my latest apple-buckwheat-sweet-quick-bread-recipe and thought I should send a link with the best peeler in the world ... and here it is! I use this for potatoes as well ... you can use the peeling blade or not - I usually just use it to slice and core - my dogs and I eat apples every day with this wonderful device - easy to clean - easy to use - everyone who eats apples or makes potato salad would benefit!
One tip, when putting the apple onto the prongs, line it up with the bottom of the apple, I know that must seem obvious, but sometimes you look at the entire apple, and one side has grown fatter, but it looks round and then put the apple on crooked ... and even if you do it's no biggie!

I am so very happy that I bought this apple machine. It adjusts easily, and, when set according to manufacturer's instructions, does a nice job on apples. I find that it is efficient, taking neither too much with the peel nor too much with the core. The slices are a very nice thickness for baking or snacking. This model is capable of peeling, coring and slicing, just peeling, or just coring and slicing. I was a little leery of the vacuum-style securing, but it really works quite nicely for me and holds it firmly to the countertop. If you put apples up or bake them with any frequency, the amount of time this device will save you is well worth the price of admission. Just last night, my four-year old peeled, cored and sliced an apple in under one minute! I could not be happier.Customer Review: Simply A Wonderful Device

We have an apple tree in our backyard that, about every other year, provides us with more apples than we can handle. As much as I love apple pie, apple cake and all the other great food items that contain apples, the chore of peeling hasn't been worth the effort to save the apples for our own consumption - we've always given them away. NOT ANYMORE. Thanks to the Back To Basics Apple and Potato Peeler, we saved over 80 percent of our apples this year. This device is ideal for anyone, of any age. It's easy to operate, easy to clean and does an outstanding job, making the chore a quick and simple process. It works so good, I ordered 15 more to give away as Christmas gifts this year.
