Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vornado EH1-0032-28 TouchStone 500 Vortex Full-Room Electric HeaterCustomer Review: Finally foud the heater that warms up my family room! Summary: 5 StarsMy house has floor heating downstairs which is very expensive to run. We spend our time mainly in the family room but only have one Thermostat for the whole of downstairs. To save on energy costs this winter I decided to look for a space heater. Over the last 2 weeks I've tried 5 different heaters and was not satisfied with any of them until I brought home the Vornado 500!
The cons I would say are it's fairly expensive and has a couple of design faults with the display. The display light is very bright and you will probably need to cover the display if you plan to use it while sleeping. Also, the display is on the top of the heater. Having a remote is kind of pointless if you can't see what you're changing.
The pros are is it heats up the room well, has plenty of safety features, is very quiet, is not made of cheap material and is also backed by a 2 year warranty.
Every other heater I tried would trip the circuit breaker on high setting even if the only other things on were the TV and Satellite Box. The Vornado does not. I've tried switcing all the electrical items that use the same circuit on at the same time and it still doesn't trip it. I guess that's becasue the Vornado will reduce its heat level and fan speed once it get's close to your desired temperature. Whatever the reason it's great not to lose power in the middle of a movie and having to go into the freezing cold garage to reset the fuses.
I also tried this heater in one of the rooms in the house that just had the weatherstripping removed. It did not do a good job. Once I replaced the weatherstripping it heated up the whole room.
So in summary I highly recommend this heater as a solution for the lack of having zone heating. If your room has a draft fix that first and then this will totally be worth the money!
Customer Review: I like it but it broke Summary: 5 StarsUpdate - 2 months after bought it - it broke, the fan intermittently stops running & the heat stays on so it starts burning itself up, it filled the room with strong burning smell/smoke. NOT safe.
Customer Review: Scary! Summary: 2 StarsWe have been using this heater for about 5 months now in our infant daughter's room. Up until last night, the product was fine. Last night we could smell a burning smell from outside of her room coming from the heater! The heater has never been moved and is always set to the same temperature so we are not sure what happened. Needless to say, this was extremely scary and we won't be using it anymore! All reviews I've read for the product are generally good so perhaps this is a fluke.
The LCD light on the top is also very bright and annoying - it never turns off.
Customer Review: Heats well and distributes it evenly Summary: 4 StarsPros:
- Works really well in heating up our living room quickly and quietly. (We tried the Holmes quartz tower heater (HQH307) but that only heated the air right in front of the machine and was super loud.)
- Housing stays cool.
Cons:
- I have small hands (about 6" long), but the indentation in the back where you are supposed to hold the top is even hard for me to insert my fingers into. Granted, you are also supposed to use your other hand to hold onto the other side at the base, but I would prefer a deeper top handle. I also encountered the same issue with the Holmes.
- The remote is small, symmetrical and not ergonomic. Just by feel, it's not easy to tell which end you're pointing at the heater.
- Each time you adjust the heater (manually or by remote), it makes a really loud beeping noise which scares our pets.
Update:
- I have to agree with the other reviewers that the blue LCD display is too bright. It emits a bright, large swathe of light. I didn't think this would be an issue, but the amount emitted is really impressive.
- Also, I set the timer to go off during the night and the beep was so loud that it woke me up. I really wish we could adjust the volume.
- The second time we turned it on, the heater started turning the timer setting on and off by itself as if a poltergeist had taken possession of it, all the while beeping repetitively. We unplugged the heater and plugged it back in. It did it again. After the 4th or 5th try, the heater finally settled down and we haven't had the problem again. I'm not sure what caused this.
- It still heats great.
Customer Review: Good with some concerns.. Summary: 4 StarsVery nice but not perfect.
Makes a loud relay click when it comes on. I have two of these heaters, they both do this. Getting used to this over time.
Does not put out large amounts of heat so if you live somewhere with actual cold this is probably not to
be used as primary heat. It could be used to warm up a room over what your furnace is doing for the entire house. If you live in Coastal California, then it works fine.
