This is the greatest item for people with weak hands! Have had it for 5 years & never had a problem. There is a minor issue with the rubber pads on the base slipping, and also jars can slip if they are damp from the refrigerator. BUT, there is an easy way to solve both issues... just cut a 6 inch square of the thin rubber gripping mat that is used under scatter rugs and keep it on the lower base. It will secure even cold and damp jars, as well as keeping the rubber pads that come on the opener from slipping. B&D really should pack a piece of this material with the opener, and perhaps they now do. But even with that caveat, there is no question that this is a great and well-made item and I'd give it 10 stars if I could!Customer Review: great idea!

My grandmother is 77 years old & has to get my granfather to open jars for her all the time. She recieved this as a gift last week & loves it. We didn't even read the directions, just plugged it in & started using it & it worked great! Very simple to understand, & easy to use, it works on a wide range of jar sizes. It closes down so it fits on the counter nicely. I read some reviews saying it took up too much counter space but I don't agree. It's not that big & much easier to use than an under the counter mounted version. I'm purchasing another one for my other grandmother who lives alone. I bought this item months ago and was amazed to find that it really, really does work properly. Thank goodness, I won't have to keep buying unit after unit, searching for a reliable product. This is the last one I will ever have to buy. The cradle arms are adjustable to various sizes and can handle everything I've tried -- pickle jars, jams and fruit spreads in jars, mayonnaise, spaghetti sauce, applesauce and olives, to name a few. I no longer have to wait till my husband gets off the lawn mower to come in and open a jar for me. I absolutely love it!Customer Review: Great Product!

Great Jar Opener, it was a great wedding gift, I love it. My mom saw it, and she likes it too, but I went to the store to buy her one I did not found it, so today 2 years later, I went in amazon.com, and finally find it, I will give her as a birthday present on this september. I purchase this (in my job) for my clients who have difficulty opening jars due to physical problems. It is easy to use and having tried other products, this one seems to work the best! If you have weakness in your hands, this will make opening jars a breeze! Amazon's price is lower than what I typically pay.
