Well, the answer is a bigger scale. But if you can deal with the 4x4 dimensions of this little guy, it's great, especially considering the price.
Out of the box, I put a 100.000 g calibration weight on it and it gave me 100.0 g. Confidence building. It runs on two AAA batteries, not coin cell$. The automatic shutoff seems to be after a minute of no weight change, so tapping the weight appears to reset the shutoff timer.
There are a few things to think about: definitely be sure to remove the two hidden pieces of cardboard under the stainless weighing platform and the plastic interrupter in the battery compartment (Doh!). Although it comes calibrated in firmware, should you ever need to recalibrate it, you'll need 1 kg and 2 kg calibration weights (!); don't lose the instruction "manual." It has a small illuminated readout, but no easy way to hold a reading that may be occluded by whatever is sitting on top of it -- like a big box, or even a little box. Just use a cheap plastic cup (tared) to raise larger objects. It has six little bumps on its underside that count for feet, so you need to use it on a fairly flat surface.
Other than those points -- highly recommended.
