Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Air-O-Swiss AOS Ultrasonic Humidifier - 7135

Customer Review: White Dust Problem Solved - Very Good Humidifier
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned several humidifiers including three ultrasonic models from different manufacturers. If you have hard water and no filtration unit on your ultrasonic humidifier you will ALWAYS get white dust.

With this humidifier, I also bought the Brita disposable water faucet purifier (I got it on Amazon). The manual says that if you use filtered water you should not use the included filtration unit that fits inside the water tank. I followed that instruction the first night and found that we still had white dust from the ultrasonic system.

Now I use water that has been filtered through the Brita and I ALSO use the filtration unit that came with the humidifier. Voila: NO WHITE DUST!
Seriously, none. As long as you use filtered water along with the "in-tank" water filter you will solve this problem.

As far as the actual humidifier goes, here are the pro's:
- Large water capacity in an attractive unit.
- QUIET QUIET QUIET!!!
- You can set the intensity of humidity being pumped into the room to achieve the level you set. This is handy if you want it to get more humid more quickly, or if you can let it work at a more leisurely pace.
- It switches from cool mist to warm mist at the touch of a button. You just have to wait around 10 minutes to let it warm up to the 140 F temp inside for the mist to come out warm.
- The ultrasonic feature makes the warm mist more sanitary than a regular warm mist humidifier.

Customer Review: Best humidifier out there
Summary: 5 Stars

I was sitting in my daughter's room tonight looking over at the humidifier and thinking, I should review that thing because it is so stinking great. We have had this humidifier for nearly 2 years and I cannot say enough good things about it. It has a warm and cool mist function which I remember when researching these things, is hard to find. Even when using the warm mist, the vapor is not so hot that it is dangerous which is good since this is in my kids' rooms most often. It is very quiet when running, you don't really notice it is there. Very noteworthy is the fact that if you use either distilled water or reverse osmosis water (cheap in jugs at the grocery store), you can chuck that clunky filter thing in the trash. One less thing to spend money on replacing. Once you do that, the only part you ever have to replace is the silver ion stick. I learned that by reading the owner's manual when I bought it.....it is sort of funny because that little tip is not advertised heavily in the manual, but it is in there. And trust me, I have used the R/O water with it for 2 years and never had a problem. (Just be sure that you never use tap water without the filter). The other benefit to that is you don't have to use the special cleaner stuff either. I just make sure to dry it out well, very low maintenance. The humidistat works great, and I love that you can change the vapor flow rate. Thinking of buying another one of these. Love love love it.

Customer Review: A Winner!
Summary: 5 Stars

I, too, checked out several humidifiers before purchasing--I read the reviews posted here prior to Jan. '07, and then I went to several stores to check out various brands. The only one I saw actually working in the store is the Air-O-Swiss, and the salesman answered all my questions confirming what I had read about the Air-O-Swiss. So I came home, bought 2 of them on line, and I think they're great!

My NYC apartment is about 1600 sq.', so one humidifier is not enough. I use one in the living room/dining room area (thanks to some doors I can close off that space), and the second one I use at night in the master bedroom (also closed off with a door). I sometimes transfer the bedroom humidifier to the kitchen during the day if I'm working in the kitchen area. Even when full of water, the humidifier is easy to carry (and I have a somewhat weak back).

Favorite features:
--the built-in mechanism for adjusting output and the digital read-out which tells us by number what level the humidity has reached
--ease of cleaning and transporting, anti-bacterial cartridge and wand. Note: the anti-bacterial devices can only go so far. I don't let water sit in the machines (and that's a precaution I would take with any humidifier). After each 8-hour cycle I rinse them out (top and bottom) with fresh cold water. They are very easy to maintain.

Good luck making your choice!

Customer Review: Use Distilled Water
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had two of these AOS-7135 ultrasonic humidifiers for about 2 years. I like most of you have owned many of the other brands, both steam, cool and warm mist.
The ultrasonics in my opinion are the best. They are quiet and cost effective. By that I mean the steam units are noisy and use a large heating element that uses alot of electricity. The AOS-7135 has the option of cool mist or warm mist.
The main complaint about these units is the white dust. If you have hard water the demineralization cartridge will work in some cases. Most of the time I read the reviews of them not working or having to change them every month. My area has mild hardness in the water. I do get some white dust.
I have alot of expensive electronics in my family room. This can be damaging to the internal parts of these units and especially the screen of my LCD TV.
So to eliminate the problem of the white dust and deposit build up in the unit I use distilled water. With the distilled water you don't have to use the demineralization cartridge. The price on Amazon is $12.50 each for the cartridge. In my area in the northeast distilled water sells for 99 cents a gallon. This offsets the price for a replacement cartridge to buy the distilled water. It may be a pain to buy it but it solves the problem completely.

Customer Review: Dry Eyes Be Gone! I've found a great humidifier!
Summary: 5 Stars

I work in an office cubicle that is running at a constant rate of 16% humidity - yes, dryer than the desert. The corporate peeps have informed me that they don't humidify the air here, as we work on a huge lab, and it would be a significant cost. So...

I have an autoimmune disorder (Sjogren's Syndrome) that results in me having almost "0" tear output, as measured by my doctor. While I am taking steps to fix this with medication - Restasis is helping - my eyes are EXTREMELY dry in this sort of atmosphere.

To solve the issue, I have this humidifier on my desk, running all day at work. It's quiet - I don't even notice it - and it really pumps out the vapor. As soon as you hit the power button, it pumps it out. In just a few minutes, I watch the humidity meter on my desk go from 16% to around 40%! Of course, I have to leave it going, as there is no ceiling on my cube or door, and the vapor quickly dissipates. That said, as long as it's pumping and I'm at my desk, I feel much better.

This device has saved me and my ability to work at work with severely dry eyes. It is solidly built, does exactly what it's supposed to, and it really quite quiet. I highly recommend it!
