Customer Review: Expensive and doesn't last that long

I know most of the great reviews of this humidifier are soon after buying this unit. Well we did like this unit enough to buy another the following winter as well, but I am sorry to say that after 2 winters, we dumped the first one. The unit seems to harbor some brown mildewish algael growth that comes back even after we've soaked the base repeatedly in vinegar and replaced the ionic silver stick and demineralization cartridge each year/three months respectively(not cheap at $25/15 each). The last straw is that the hemastat doesn't work after the first year.
This is pretty pricey for something that lasts like a year and a half. So, maybe buy one that doesn't work that well but replace every year at a lot less money? we could buy three almost as good units for the price of one of these!
