Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker with Bonus 350 Micro FiltersCustomer Review: WONDERFUL!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My friends own a very nice fully organic/fair trade coffee/tea shop in Woodstock, VT that I've spent a ridiculous amount of time in for the past 4 years or so. It's where I gained a deeper appreciation of the entire world of coffee, from the soil to my belly. They're beans are all excellent so when I got the Aeropress I took it right in for the first try. Other than liking the ratio of scoops-to-water to be 3 scoops to 4 on the plunger I vibe with everything about the product an directions. The brewing is fast, easy, and fun. The concentrated brew (I can't call it espresso because the crema gets stuck in the beans during the process) that comes out is ripe for some more water to make the best cup of coffee I've ever had. It opens up so many new levels of flavor, deepening my awareness of the moment with every cup (the buzz doesn't hurt either). Cleanup is one of my favorite parts because of the complete absence of redundant complexity and ease-of-use in the design. The only improvement I can thing of is to increase the height of the brewing chamber because 4 scoops with level 4 water comes awfully close to the top, but I like the flavor of 3 scoops more anyways. Also, glass would be nice to fully eliminate any plastic leaching, though it's obviously high-grade and the brew time short enough that I'm sure the effect is nil. But still, it'd be nice. Maybe have the plastic one for traveling and a larger glass home version. That'd be sweet. I've yet to try it with loose green tea/herbal infusions but I'm sure it will perform perfectly. Thank you so much Alan Alder, your stuff always impresses me with it's elegant simplicity and perfect functionality. BUY IT!!!
Customer Review: Consistent Coffee and great customer service! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product over a year ago and I am only writing this now because I found an old "to do list" that read "post coffeepress review".
I am very satisfied with the purchase. I am an environmentally conscious person and I like anything that can use less resources to do the same job. I particularly like things that can do more with less. Their coffee filter uses only hat you need to brew the coffee and is very tiny and inexpensive. Costs about a penny each. And it also works for brewing loose tea, yerba mate and coffee substitutes. I really hate ANY residues of ground coffee in my mug and with their filter I haven't had that happen (except in the times in which I didn't attach the filter properly).
At first I was a little hesitant about spending 30 bucks in a piece of plastic with a rubber plunge. The plastic is much thicker than I thought, but by no means means more durable. I had an issue with my aeropress and the lid of the plunge broke after a while. I contacted their customer service and they very quickly replaced the broken part and did not ask anything other than my info and address to send the piece and the self-addressed return label. The thicker plastic could mean more heat resistance, tougher if dropped.
Their customer service is great. It is not one of those companies that come up with a trendy product just to rip you off your money. And if customer service matters for you as much as it does for me, don't hesitate in purchasing this item.
Customer Review: Better than french press! Summary: 5 Stars
I received an AeroPress for my birthday and I love this apparatus for several reasons: The lower water temperature means a less bitter brew. Full extraction very quickly similar to french press. BUT the AeroPress is better than any half dozen french presses I have laying around because:
1. The coffee can be any grind - no more searching for that elusive grinder that will not pulverize the beans - pulverize away.
2. No digging grounds out of the bottom of the pot or trying to tweezer grinds out of the press - a quick shake and a wipe and you're done!
3. There is a filter which prevents the grinds from ending up in your cup.
4. The coffee is pressed into the cup leaving the grounds in the apparatus so there's no risk of the brew becoming bitter if you don't drink it fast enough.
You can drink the press straight as espresso or add water for an americano. I think I will buy several to have at home, office, car, etc. Tip: if you like your brew strong, don't follow the included directions. Make the coffee upside down:
1. Put the rubber press in place in the tube
2. Add grounds and water
3. Swish mixture to ensure all grounds are engaged
4. Place and lock the filter
5. Flip over and press into the cup
You can find the press cheaper but I recommend getting the pack with extra filters because I predict your coffee intake will increase upon receiving this apparatus =)
Customer Review: Great for the office Summary: 5 Stars
I don't normally leave reviews, but I love this item. I work in an office with terrible coffee AND to add insult to injury, they usually turn off the coffee pots about 11 am.
My little routine:
Find a cup with a solid base that won't tip easily
Go to the office kitchen
Easy to operate (I usually fill it with water from the water dispenser, which has hot water) - if you have a water "cooler" with hot and cold, this is a REAL plus, no need to heat water
With one hand, press the red hot water spigot, with the other hand hold the AeroPress on top of the cup
Swish it a bit
Put the cylinder with the black seal on IMMEDIATELY to create pressure so the coffee doesn't drip out the bottom (made that mistake once - a lot of it drained before it could sit long enough)
Go to the restroom
Come back, gently press the plunger, make sure you push hard at the end to get a tiny bit of the creme that is so wonderful with good coffee
Pull plunger back a little bit, unscrew the base
Over the trash can, just push
Quick rinse and you're done
So, for the coffee snobs or those who want a single cup without the hassle and waste of making a pot, this is a wonderful gizmo. It's a bit of a conversation starter in the office kitchen (I call it my "coffee syringe").
1 reminder - make sure you have a cup under the press when filling with coffee (otherwise you have coffee dripping on the floor - been there, done that)
Customer Review: The reviews are right! Summary: 5 Stars
I basically stumbled upon this nifty little coffee maker. Still didn't believe it could really make great coffee. Read dozens of reviews at different places and figured this gadget could save me a lot of money. Had planned on maybe in the future buying one of those expensive espresso makers. Now I won't have to!!
My last attempt at getting by on the cheap was an Moka Express by Bialetti. It is good, but the results still have some bitterness to it. Not this little baby. The AeroPress works like a charm. Coffee taste great and if done correctly (which is easy) the results are great with no bitterness.
It comes with all the stuff (except coffee) to make for a excellent cup of brew. You even get the crema (reddish-brown foam that floats on the surface) that didn't get with the Moka. The filters can be cleaned easily and reused. The rest of the unit, after pressing the compressed grounds out, just run under the faucet quickly and your done with cleanup. The tube is already clean from the press. Much easier than the Moka Express.
Only tried regular ground in it once, but wasn't as happy with the taste like with better espresso ground. Maybe I did something wrong, but would recommend a good ground with this. You already saved a lot so spend the savings on some good coffee.
High Points: Great coffee made easy. Clean up made easy. Saves lots of money.
I would recommend this to anyone.
