Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of AeroPress Coffee and Espresso MakerCustomer Review: Big problem! Better than expected... Summary: 5 StarsI asked for the AeroPress for Christmas to use at at work. On Christmas morning I used it for the first time to try it out. The coffee tasted great! Having already played with my new toy... I switched to the already made drip coffee. What a difference. Now I don't want to take it to work. I guess I'll need to order another one.
Customer Review: Great convenient way to make espresso and American style coffee Summary: 5 StarsI got this coffee maker to see if it would improve the taste of my morning cup of coffee. It looked a little complicated when I took it out of the box, but once I read the directions and started using it, it really did improve the taste of my coffee. My coffee went from having a bitter taste to have little to no bitterness at all. I used to put a lot of flavored creamer in it, to sort of mask the bitterness, but I actually like the taste of the coffee all by itself now that I have the new press. The only complaint is that it is sometimes hard to press down because the grounds form a sort of plug at the bottom (fix this by adding a little more water and stirring it again), and you need to have a coffee grinder with a fine ground or espresso setting because if the grounds are too coarse the water will drip through the filter too fast making the coffee too weak. Overall, this coffee maker is easy, cheap, and has greatly improved the taste of my morning coffee.
Customer Review: Too much hype Summary: 3 StarsI like this product but I don't use it often, as I find it very tricky to use properly. Don't believe the claims that it is simple. From the moment you put the hot water in, it will begin dripping. This is the biggest problem, since it means you had better set up your cup under the product beforehand, and probably it will not work to bring the product to the water source, like office water heater, so you need to bring the hot water to the product. Basically, every time I use it it seems to spill, or I wind up adding the wrong amount of water because you have to move fast before it drips through, if you want to take advantage of the pressure feature to get the most flavor.
I also don't think it is much superior in flavor to a good French Press, and I personally prefer the French Press because it doesn't use a filter-- I like my coffee with all the oils and even sediment, so having a paper filter to me is not an improvement, although people who like their coffee clear will like the paper filter feature. The filters are very inexpensive, which is good.
It makes an excellent cup of coffee if you master it, but it falls short of the extraordinary claims in the advertising. It also doesn't make espresso... it makes a drink with espresso qualities that tastes good, but don't think you are getting an espresso maker.
Customer Review: BEST coffee EVER!!! Summary: 5 StarsOh my Gosh! My dad loved this gift....it made the best coffee ever. Theparts are easy to clean and store...I actually like it better than my electric coffee maker...I think I'm going to get myself one. You'll love this little maker.
Customer Review: Perfect for a latte junkie... Summary: 5 StarsHi, I am a latte junkie. Like anyone who hands over that $4 to the barista every morning, I have on several occasions attempted to find a way to make my own lattes. Eventually I read about the AeroPress online. Almost every review I could find was positive and the price certainly was right, so I decided to give it a try. Over two years later, I am still loving my AeroPress. I rarely go to Starbucks anymore. When I do, I usually think - my lattes are better (and faster!) than this. Here's what I do for my latte:
Put two heaping scoops of ground coffee in the chamber. I use preground coffee - usually Peet's Italian Roast or Seattle's Best Henry's Blend. I used to grind my own coffee beans, but I started using preground to save time and there has been no noticeable difference in the resulting latte.
Heat some water in the kettle but leave the lid off of it. I know the water is ready when I can see that it is just starting to come to a boil. Add the water to the chamber slowly, until the level is at the middle of the 2 range. Stir for about 20 seconds, then start pressing!
Meanwhile I heat about 1 1/2 cups of milk in my Pyrex in the microwave for about 3 minutes or until it is super hot. Then just add that to the mug and voila! A perfect latte in about 5 minutes.
For cleanup, all you do is shoot the puck of coffee into the trash, and rinse the rest with water. No need to wash with soap or anything. I also rinse and reuse the filter about 3 or 4 times.
I seriously think this is one of the greatest inventions. So simple, but so genius. I hope to never be without my AeroPress.
