I worried about purchasing this lamp as I had seen some lamps of another brand in stores that looked cheap and flimsy. This lamp's base is heavily weighted and the brass has a beautiful finish. The light swivels out of the way incase it is too bright when not reading or crafting. I use it for knitting and reading. I am really pleased with this lamp. This is another case where it pays to spend a little more.Customer Review: Great "until"

This lamp showed up pretty much as described and depicted in the on-line pix. The lamp itself was harsher than i had expected, and stopped working within a few weeks. Rather than hassle with returning it and asking for a refund, I replaced it with one of those mercury low wattage bulbs, and it's OK.
The lamp has that classic look that I wanted, but the performance has only been so-so.
