I am going to review the lamp itself and not the amazon services or therein. This lamp was given to me as a gift and I believe it was purchased at a local RiteAid/Walgreens around Christmas time last year. I have never seen the movie "A Christmas Story", so I can't judge how good of a replica it is. Ever since I've seen this lamp in a circular ad, I was charmed by it and have wanted one for years, so I was delighted to receive this as a gift.
The biggest problem I had was finding a lightbulb that didn't make the lamp extremely hot within a few minutes. I planned to use this often as an actual lamp and even when using 40-45 watt bulbs had the heat problem. After several runs to the hardware store, I found a wonderful solution. They're called Philips Party and Deco bulbs and are 25w. Even after a few hours the lamp does not heat up. They come in a few different colors and I use the yellow one because it gives off the best light. I did have the red one blow out when turning on the lamp, but that was the only bulb that did. So I assume that it was the bulb itself and not the lamp. I don't use the light inside the leg often because I think it may have the heat problem and replacing that bulb requires taking apart the lamp.
In regards to the light inside the leg, the box my lamp came in DID come with instructions on how to replace it. I haven't tried taking the leg apart but have kept the instructions just in case.
The power cord is a decent length; not too short that the lamp is difficult to place, but not long enough to stretch across a room or along a wall. The switch is easy to turn and click through the different settings (I've had some lamps that had stiff switches and were a pain to turn so this is nice). The shade does a good job of softening light as well.
Removing and replacing the shade is easy. Though the way the shade is designed, you can't use the curly-q energy saving lightbulbs with it (not even the smallest size).
Overall this is a nice bedside lamp. I like using it at night when I don't want the ceiling light on. Other than the lightbulb fiasco in the beginning, I've had no problems with it.

Who cares if this product has a few less-than-perfect aspects. It IS well made, it works well, it has three different light settings (including leg-only), and it is an all around fun gift for the fan of The Christmas Story.
The only problem I saw with it is that the leg bulb is difficult to change. But for the price it IS a decent quality item. I would much rather have given the full size version as a gift, but who wants to put out $150 to $200? This is the perfect size and price to get a good laugh AND actually get used on a desk. Who is actually going to put the full sized one in a permanent position in their house anyways (I know a few who would)?
To make the gift even more authentic, I built a simple wood crate and spray painted FRAGILE on the outside. The box the lamp comes in gives it away too quickly and looks too gimmicky. Put about an hour of garage time into the gift and you'll have a wood crate, the leg lamp and the perfect holiday gift.
